Kind Deeds’ First Civilian Patient Heads Home After a Year of Treatment and Healing
Almost a year ago, Anastasiia, a 29-year-old economist from Pokrovsk, Ukraine, arrived in the U.S. with a shattered jaw—the visible scars of war—and an unbreakable determination to heal.
Anastasiia became the first civilian Kind Deeds supported. Today, after a full year of treatment and recovery, she is returning home stronger, more confident, and full of hope.
Her injuries were devastating: a missile strike near the frontlines left her with catastrophic facial trauma, destroying her lower jaw, almost all her bottom teeth, and part of her chin bone. But her spirit never broke.
Thanks to the compassion of Dr. David Hoffman from Staten Island Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, who personally invited her to New York, and a brilliant surgical team at Northwell Health, Anastasiia’s path to healing began.
In July 2024, she underwent her first and most complex surgery: a 10-hour microsurgery to reconstruct her chin using bone from her leg. This was followed by five more surgeries, including vestibuloplasty to prepare for dental implants, dental implant placement, scar revisions, laser therapy sessions, and soft tissue corrections.
Kind Deeds covered her housing and fully covered the costs of her stay in New York, ensuring she could focus fully on her recovery without added burdens.
Today, Anastasiia’s radiant spirit and resilience shine through. She stands as a living testament to what’s possible when compassion meets action.
“I’m deeply grateful to Kind Deeds, its founder Oleksandr Rubtsov, and the whole team. They brought me back to life—physically and emotionally,” Anastasiia shared. “This past year gave me a second chance. The work Kind Deeds is doing is truly vital, and it must continue.”
At Kind Deeds, we believe recovery means more than survival—it means living fully again. Anastasiia’s story is just one of many. With your support, we can help others take that brave first step.
