This week we welcomed Danylo Dobrov, a 22-year-old soldier of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, to New York.

Born in Luhansk, Danylo joined the Armed Forces in September 2022. He trained in the UK and defended Ukraine on the Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka fronts. In May 2024, while advancing to infantry positions, Danylo stepped on a landmine and lost part of his left leg. After surgery in Druzhkivka and months of recovery in Dnipro, he has now arrived in the U.S. to receive a modern prosthesis and rehabilitation through the Kind Deeds program.

Despite the hardship, Danylo remains optimistic. His dream is to become a logistics specialist, travel the world, and return to running and driving again.

Just a few days after arriving in New York, Danylo shared his first impressions:

“Today, for the first time in my life, I swam in the ocean. It was an incredible and unforgettable experience. I am endlessly grateful to everyone for this opportunity!”

We are honored to stand with Danylo on his journey of recovery and look forward to seeing him regain mobility and hope for the future.
